The children brought into the Chambliss Emergency Shelter are at-risk to begin with, but also face a difficult time being taken from their home and put into a place where they don't know anybody and they don't have any belongings. Many of these children are lacking the basic necessities to simply get them through the day.

why should people support this cause

For the past several years, I have participated in gathering presents for Christmas for the Chambliss Emergency Shelter. Many of the kids brought in are teens and when asked what they want for Christmas, they say toothbrushes, combs, soap and deodorant. The Chambliss Shelter is already run on the goodness of donated money, and they do their best to provide, but they could use more help. By providing these goods as a community, we're telling both the shelter and the kids that we care about them and want them to succeed. That could give the kids the power and inspiration to take what is a bad situation and make their lives even better rather than moving into bad crowds and trouble. It is such a simple thing to offer someone their basic needs and could simply turn a life around.

Our College Lifegroup would like to help by going shopping on Dec 18th for needed items for the Children's Home/Chambliss Shelter. We would be willing to do more than personal hygiene items. Based on the list of needs gathered from the Children's Home, we will purchase needed and wanted items for several of the children. We would also like to deliver the gifts as a group to the Children's Home. - Awaken College Lifegroup
