Drawing upon the craftsmanship of landscape architects in sister city Wuxi, China, Chattanooga can construct a world-class Asian-themed garden, park or greenway that will be a popular destination and quiet sanctuary for tourists and citizens alike. A gift store, donation box and volunteer support will maintain the premises for generations to come.
why
why should people support this cause
Chattanooga was the first mid-sized US city to secure a sister city in China. 2012 will mark our 30th anniversary with Wuxi, which is a city of 6 million people famous for its waterfront and early Ming Dynasty gardens. Wuxi officials have indicated a willingness to provide design and labor for a garden project in Chattanooga. Our costs should be confined to providing land, building materials and room and board for the workers. Chattanooga has offered to build a garden in Wuxi with corporate support that will bring more tourists, students and investors to our Scenic City. For many years, three Taihu Rocks from Wuxi were on display at the Bluff View Sculpture Garden. These prized rocks were the impetus for a China Garden project begun during Mayor Bob Corker's administration. By insuring that only locally-sourced wood, stone, ceramic tiles, etc. are used, Chattanoogans will have a sense of ownership in this project and a sense of gratitude and respect for our friends from afar. A "China-Nooga" Garden will enrich our cultural diversity and be a catalyst for global investment in our city, county, state and region.
