This cause is intended to provide pedestrians and cyclists with safe access between Missionary Ridge and the Brainerd Levee whereby the dangerous intersection at Shallowford and Crest Roads is avoided. This improvement will be especially useful when the Riverwalk is connected to the Brainerd Levee.

why should people support this cause

Crest Road runs along Missionary Ridge and offers spectacular views of Chattanooga and the Tennessee Valley. Yet, bicycle access to Missionary Ridge is quite limited. Residents on the Ridge have a wonderful community center but no swimming pool or tennis court. Many young families on the Ridge choose to join the Ridgeside Pool, which is accessible only by car. If a greenway from Ault Drive in North Crest Estates to Shallowford Road were constructed, young swimmers would have a convenient and safe way to get to the Ridgeside Pool. Ridgeside/Shepherd Hills residents would enjoy this greenway as it would offer the possibility of watching sunsets from Missionary Ridge. There are several issues to be dealt with, including obtaining right-of-ways from affected landowners. The greenway should be as wide as the Riverwalk and well-lit. Other security precautions will need to be considered and implemented.
