I would like to develop an educational and transitional care opportunity for the Sickle Cell population in Chattanooga. Sickle cell disease primarily affects people of African, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Asian Indian ancestry. In the United States, sickle cell disease is most often seen in African Americans, in whom the disease occurs in one out of every 500 births and one out of every 36,000 Hispanic births. An estimated 100,000 people live with sickle cell disease in the U.S. Worldwide, it has been estimated that one in every 250,000 babies is born with sickle cell. Learn more about Sickle Cell disease at www.sicklecelldisease.org.
why
why should people support this cause
The Sickle Cell population in Chattanooga is under served, particularly those who have recently transitioned from pediatric care to adult-hood. There is a need for awareness of the disease and its complications and for a discussion about the cure for pediatric patients. A bone marrow transplant can provide a life-saving opportunity for a child living with sickle cell as in the case with Ariel Kelly. There remains many more sickle cell clients in need of a cure. People should get involved in launching the awareness of the sickle cell need currently not being met in our community. More adults are dying in sickle cell crises than children because of the lack of education and treatment for them. This can be prevented with the proper outlet for care. This cause serves as a means to START. Thank you.

the plan
With the professional project management of Esince Management Services, the Chattanooga Scenic City Sickle Cell Corporation plans to host a FrockTail Party at the Hunter Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Friday, November 30, 2012. A FrockTail Party is a fashion auction! Inspired by fashion and compassion, the FrockTail Party will raise money to promote sickle cell awareness in our community. The event will showcase fabulous one-of-a-kind designer dresses from fashion designers and boutique owners in Chattanooga and the surrounding areas. This is a chance for local female executives and business owners to revamp their wardrobe just in time for the holiday season. Currently, 100% of the proceeds from the auction will go to the organization. We are also seeking a partnership with a local non-profit.
In preparation for the frock auction, fashion designers from Chattanooga and the surrounding areas will be asked to design a garment based on given measurements of mystery judges. The winning designs will be featured in the advertisements for the FrockTail Party. All designers will have the opportunity to strut their fashions on the run-way during a fashion show that will be held in conjunction with the FrockTail Party.
