description

Human Trafficking is a growing problem in America, and Chattanooga is not an exception. According to a report by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, between 25 and 50 cases have recently been reported in Hamilton County.

why

why should people support this cause

Sexual slavery, human trafficking, and the prostitution of minors is not a problem that only happens in third world or Southeast Asian countries. It happens right here in Chattanooga. People should get involved to stop children from being exploited and to keep Chattanooga safe.

Human Trafficking Awareness Walk/Run (Posted by Holly Wood)

To have a Family oriented Walk/Run in the Chickamauga Battlefield in Georgia. I want to make this a day that we can all join together to bring awareness to the surrounding areas of Tennessee so that we can do something active about this issue. I want to have someone from Second life speak about what we are joining together to walk/Run for. With this event we will raise money to go towards helping victims who have been rescued out of Slavery as well as bringing for efforts to help rescue those who are enslaved still. There will be a fee to walk/run. I want to have T-Shirts made for the event that people can wear and help shed light on the situation even after the race as they wear them in everyday life. I also want to be able to have water and other nutrients needed to keep the Walkers/Runners hydrated and safe. I am posting on here so that I can possibly get some other great ideas as well as possibly finding someone to help me organize everything and find the steps to going about this. This event is currently planned for Spring 2013. So please join with me and Help me to get this Awareness Event going! Im not sure how much it is going to cost to do this its in the beginning stages so the budget needed will be a high guestimate. Also the same with the volunteer hours.

So glad you want to get involved Lizzy. The Greater Chattanooga Coalition Against Human Trafficking is a great way to get involved with this cause. They meet once a month at Partnership for Families, Children and Adults, 300 Eighth St., Chattanooga. The next meeting is February 2 at 11:30 am. This is a meeting of law enforcement, service providers, businesspeople, students, and anyone else interested in discussing Chattanooga solutions to this problem. For more information, and to find other ways to get involved, visit secondlifechattanooga.org.
