Second Life of Chattanooga is a Non-Profit Organization that strives to create awareness that drives action to end human trafficking in the Greater Chattanooga area. On January 11, 2013, Second Life of Chattanooga is hosting "Unite. Wear White." to expose the fact that human trafficking occurs in our city and our area daily and to make the community aware of steps each individual can take to end human trafficking. The event, which will be held at the Chattanooga Choo Choo, will feature speaker Theresa Flores, trafficking survivor and author.

Second Life needs help promoting this event in the community. If we are going to create awareness that drives action in 2013, we need to pack the Chattanooga Choo Choo with individuals who are determined to get the message of human trafficking out and put an end to this crime once and for all. We need people to hand out flyers, post the information about the event on their Facebook or other social media site, and do whatever else they can think of to get word of the event out to the public at large.

We want everyone in the Greater Chattanooga Area at the Chattanooga Choo Choo, clad in white and ready to put an end to human trafficking for good.

what's currently being done

Second Life of Chattanooga is having posters created for the event and will be distributing them. However, we will need so many more individuals, businesses, schools, groups, sororities, fraternities, and whom ever else wants to get involved to help us to spread the word about the Unite. Wear White event on January 11, 2013.

why should people support this cause

No matter who you are, no matter where you come from, no matter what you believe, it is easy to see that enslaving a person against their will is wrong. Even more dispicable, forcing this person to work, causing them to be forcibly raped, beating them, these things cannot be tolerated. People should support the cause of awareness and should help Second Life promote the Unite. Wear White event on January 11, 2013 because we can make an impact on human trafficking. We can stop people from being bought and sold as slaves in our own back yard. But we need to make people aware that it is happening, how it is happening, who is doing it and how they can stop it. Support Second Life in promoting the Unite. Wear White. event and stop human trafficking.

who would benefit from addressing this cause

Anyone being trafficked for the financial gain of another individual or party. There are currently more slaves in the world right now than ever before in human history. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reports that 2.8 million children are reported as runaways each year. Of these, one-third will be lured into prostitution or pornography within 48 hours. If we can create awareness that drives action to end human trafficking, it will be those children that benefit from addressing our cause.

leadership qualities

Terri Self and Jerry Redman are the Co-Executive Directors and Founders of Second Life of Chattanooga. They created Second Life of Chattanooga in February 2007 when one of them was informed that human sex-trafficking is an issue in the United States. From the beginning we set out to be an awareness-driven organization, providing individuals, groups, and organizations with the basic knowledge of the issue of sex trafficking and exploitation so that they could then act on what they now knew in order to become part of the solution to this terrible crime. We also knew that from our beginning our mission was to focus specifically on the Greater Chattanooga/Southeast Tennessee region.

when it should get started

Now! The sooner the better! We will have our flyers completed by November 11, 2012. If you want to hand out or post flyers, get in touch with us and we will get them in your hands. Otherwise, feel free to use email and social media to get the word out as often as you possibly can.

when it should be finished

We will be promoting the event until it occurs on January 11, 2013. Until then we want you to promote it! Then we want you to come to the event! Listen to Theresa Flores detail the horrors of trafficking and then let us tell you how YOU can end it!
