The Causeway Challenge is an ideas contest centered around a specific question, that empowers individuals to pilot their ideas for community change.
You don’t have to be a nonprofit or a foundation to make a difference. Causeway believes in equipping average citizens to solve problems they identify in their own communities. Each Causeway Challenge is framed around a question. Community members apply with their idea, then a panel of locals chooses the winning projects. Winners receive $2000-3000 and a spot in Causeway's four-month incubation program, with the goal of running a pilot version of their idea. After incubation, some people realize they need to go back to the drawing board, some have a few small tweaks to make, and some have a proven concept that they're ready to grow.
Since 2014, with tremendous support from local foundation partners, we have awarded over $280,000 to 75 grassroots leaders to test their ideas through the Causeway Challenge. Our next challenge will be announced in early 2020. Join our mailing list at the bottom of this page to receive updates.
