Since its beginnings in 2009, the Folk School of Chattanooga existed to bring people together to learn, play, and celebrate traditional music. Their community-driven space facilitates lessons and public events featuring bluegrass, old time, blues, ragtime, country, honky tonk, world music, jazz, and more. Their contribution to Chattanooga's social and artistic scene isn't just about the consumption of music— it's about hands-on, up-close-and-personal music education for anyone. It's about a ten-year-old having the chance to ask Bela Fleck why he wears "thimbles" on his fingers. It’s about creating space for Chattanooga to interact with the timeless tradition of music in meaningful ways.
